About

Introduction to Instruction (I-2-I) is the gateway course to the IMAS Martial Arts Instructors Award. A practical foundation in teaching and learning for black belts who are beginning to instruct, assisting with classes or developing their teaching. Learn how to plan purposeful lessons, explain and demonstrate skills, organise practice, give useful feedback and check learning. Six modules include martial arts examples, activities, revision checks, a lesson planning exercise and a 20-question final examination with an 80% pass mark. Self-paced study: approximately 3 to 4 hours. The course recognises introductory online learning; it does not include an observed practical teaching assessment. On successful completion, the next stage is to apply for the IMAS Martial Arts Instructors Award: a longer, more detailed programme that develops your ability to plan, deliver and assess martial arts training independently. Successful Award candidates are entered into the IMAS Register of Qualified Instructors. Email admin@imas-online.org after completing I-2-I to request Award enrolment information and discuss entry requirements. I-2-I completion does not itself confer the Award or entry to the Register.
